Zar'roc was crafted in Ellesméra by the legendary elf smith Rhunön, not by dwarven hands. Unlike ordinary steel, the blade is virtually indestructible and can withstand the heat of dragon fire without dulling or breaking. When Brom died defending Eragon from the Ra'zac, he entrusted Zar'roc to his young apprentice as a final gift. Eragon later learned the sword's true origin during Brom's story in Teirm: it was originally owned by Morzan, the first of the Forsworn, whom Brom killed in combat. This transfer was not merely practical but deeply symbolic, marking Eragon's transition into a true leader capable of bearing the weight of the past. During the war against Galbatorix, Zar'roc did not remain by Eragon's side; after the Battle of the Burning Plains, he gave it to Murtagh.
